Shetland Scenery
Fascinating Landscapes
A Shetland Seascape
Nowhere in Shetland is more than 5km (3 miles) from the sea, and it is around the shore that Shetland's most spectacular scenery is to be found. The coastline is varied and changeable, with awesome cliffs and headlands at one extreme to sheltered beaches of pristine sand at the other.
Throughout the islands, the land is penetrated by 'voes' - long, narrow sea inlets. Inland, the terrain is predominantly hilly, with a striking feature being the almost complete absence of trees.
