Nat-West Island Games
Natwest Island Games
The 2005 Games featured a variety of sports including football, golf, sailing, squash, table tennis and volleyball.
Between the 9th and 15th of July 2005 Shetland played host to the International Island Games. The Games were established in the Isle of Man in 1985 with the aim of fostering friendship between the member islands. The Games have been held every two years since, and at the time of writing the number of island members has reached 24.
The games provide the sportsmen and women of the various islands an opportunity to experience international competition against other islanders with a similar standard of performance. It is also a unique opportunity for ‘cultural exchange’ - a chance to learn from the experiences and ideas of other islands and islanders.
